STERLING COUNTY will continue to use the following rules and procedures to comply with its responsibility under the INDIGENT HEALTH CARE TREATMENT ACT.

 

Effective September 1, 2006:

 

An Application Form can be obtained at the Sterling County Courthouse, via Judge Ralph Sides.  Assistance completing the application will be provided if needed.  STERLING COUNTY will use rules and procedures found in the COUNTY INDIGENT HEALTH CARE HANDBOOK published by the Texas Department of State Health Services.  In summary, these are the rules:

 

  • 1.                    Application forms must be completely filled out.
  • 2.                    Verification of income, termination of income, residence, household composition, and resources are required.
  • 3.                    Net income is figured on a gross monthly screening table found in the County Indigent Health Care Program Manual.
  • 4.                    Liquid resource assets cannot exceed $2,000 or $3,000 if the house contains a relative who is aged or disabled.  The value of a car cannot be greater than $4650.  Personal property and homesteads are exempt assets.
  • 5.                    Eligible persons must be residents of STERLING COUNTY and must intend to stay.
  • 6.                    Applicants must provide all requested information and documentation requested, or applications will be denied.
  • 7.                    Applicants have the right to appeal adverse decisions.
 

STERLING COUNTY HAS NO FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILTY for Non-Emergency Services or Prescriptions rendered to eligible residents by Non-Mandated Providers. 

 



STERLING COUNTY WILL ONLY ACCEPT AND PAY the Standard Payment rates as determined by Texas Department of State Health Services.  These rates approximate AFDC Medicaid rates.
